My name is Tashi and I am 20 years old. My family lives in Yushu Prefecture. The Yushu Earthquake struck when I was in primary school. I remembered being buried under the debris, and then I went unconscious. When I woke up, I had been rescued from the site of the earthquake and transported to a hospital in Xining. I lost connections with my parents. At that time I thought my mom and dad had died in the earthquake, and they thought I was dead as well(as I later learned). After a long time mom and dad saw my message on TV and knew I was still alive, and they went to Xining to take me back home. We were reunited as a family. The two years following the Earthquake, I dropped out of school to deal with the trauma, both physically and mentally. This year I felt ready to go to school again, and my parents took me to the Ci Xing School in Nangqian County. I decided to study Tibetan medicine and pursue a career as a doctor because they saved my life in the earthquake. I want to give back.
